On Saturday, Oct. 18 Northern California Poker Tournament Player of the Year Rellie Sigua of San Bruno, will make a guest appearance at Capitol Casino in Sacramento. This special POY Tournament will give Capitol’s regular players, as well as anyone else from Sacramento and points beyond, the chance to take on the three-time reigning champion—literally face-to face.
The game will be no-limit Texas Hold’em and have a buy-in of $300 + $30. Starting stacks will be 8,000 chips, with an additional 2,000 available for a $10 dealer appreciation at the start of play. Levels will be 25 minutes long and re-entries will be allowed for four levels—until the first break. Starting time will be 10:00 a.m.
“All of us here at Capitol Casino are honored to host the 2014 POY event,” said Capitol’s tournament director Mark Pritchett. “It is a privilege to have Rellie as well as The Cardroom newspaper visit our casino for this special event and look forward to hosting more events in the future. Our customers who have joined the POY this year really like the points race and we are excited for more sign-ups for 2015.”
Commenting on the upcoming event Sigua said, “This is really going to be a great tournament and I’m really looking forward to my first chance to play at Capitol Casino. I understand it’s where J.C. Tran got his start, so that alone makes it a special destination to me. I’m always looking for a good challenge, so I hope that all of Capitol’s regular players will be there, especially those competing for the 2014 Player of the Year title. I also hope that lots of players from all around will come to try their best against me to claim the victory.”
The Cardroom’s editor Randall Rapp added, “This is the fifth year we’ve had special tournaments for our Player of the Year, but our first one at Capitol Casino. All of the others have been big successes, so I know that will be the case again. I’m sure Mark Pritchett and the rest of the staff at Capitol will do an incredible job making sure everything runs smoothly and that the many out-of-town players who come will be made to feel welcome. Put this one on your calendar of ‘must attends’ as it is sure to be an event to remember.”
2014 POY Contest
With points totaled up through Sept. 1, Sigua continues to diligently hold on to the lead. There are many players still in position to claim the title though and with three months left to accumulate points a good strong run by anyone could be enough to come out on top.
Casinos currently actively sending in points are: Bay 101 Casino, San Jose; Capitol Casino, Sacramento; Livermore Casino, Livermore; Lucky Chances Casino, Colma; and The Palace Poker Casino, Hayward.
Any cardroom or casino advertising in The Cardroom is welcome to send in their results however—the more the merrier!
