Capitol and Geronimo host tourney

If you’re from the Sacramento area and listen to sports 1140 am radio, you surely know who Don Geronimo is. Capitol Casino and “The Don Geronimo Show” teamed up to have their first annual poker tournament on Saturday, Feb. 16. With the buy-in making good sense at $140, they fielded a total of 113 entrants and had a cash prize pool of $17,000. It made a great day of tournament poker.

CBS radio brought in some exciting bounty prizes for those who knocked out Don and his entourage, including a custom-fit bowling ball, an autographed bowling pin, bowling games, Sacramento King’s tickets, San Jose Shark’s ticket’s, and Boreal lift tickets. Making his way to the final table was “Slo Joe” who is part of Don’s radio show. He cashed out in seventh place for $764. After that the player’s decided on a six-way chop receiving $2,289 each.

The popular second Saturday $220 Deep Stack Hold’em tournament was also a great success on Feb. 9. With a whopping prize pool settling in at $21,600 for the 108 entrants, a seven-way chop is what the players arrived at, with chip leader Dennis taking $3,346 and second through seventh receiving $2,646 each. The next $220 Deep Stack tournament will be held on March 9 at 11:00 a.m. Be sure to sign up early.

If tournament poker is what you prefer then Capitol Casino is a great place to play, During the week (Monday through Friday) the prize pool has been averaging between $3,700 and $4,500, all for a $30 buy-in. There is one optional $30 add-on you can utilize anytime through the first break to boost your chip stack, or if you happen to take an unfortunate early beat.

If you are free on Sundays, come join the $5,000 guaranteed prize pool tournament they hold on the first, third, and fourth Sunday of every month, (fifth Sunday when applicable). The prize pool ranges between $10,000 and $15,000.

Capitol Casino also offers a wide variety of limit and no-limit Texas Hold’em games including $4/8 and $8/16 limit with full kill. No-limit games played are $1/3, $2/5, and $5/10 blind no-limit. The $4/8 Omaha games have been well received, often spreading two or three games on most days. Starting Monday, March 9 at 3:00 p.m., Capitol Casino will be spreading an $8/16 Omaha hi/lo with half kill. From then on they will spread this game every Monday starting at 3:00 p.m.

Capitol Casino offers a variety of other table games including Blackjack, Supreme Baccarat, EZ Baccarat, Pai Gow Poker and tiles. Coming soon is a second EZ Baccarat table to give customers another playing option.

Now is the time to be gathering your raffle tickets for the March 30 “Lucky Cash Giveaway.” Any poker player with a Players Rewards Card getting a full house, either in a tournament or cash poker game, will receive a raffle ticket to be drawn on this lucky day at 4:00 p.m. The action is always crazy on these drawing days, so come in early to lock your seat up to enjoy the preliminary festivities. Omaha players receive raffle tickets as well, needing a full house of tens full or better to qualify.

If good food is what you like, come in and order from the wide variety of items on either the American or Asian menu.
