Elk Grove holds town-hall meeting on casino plan

The Wilton Rancheria would like to build a casino—along with a hotel, spa, and fitness center—in what is often referred to as the “ghost mall” along Highway 99 in Elk Grove. About 300 people met with city and tribe leaders at the Falls Event Center on July 7 to ask questions and express their opinions.

The usual pros and cons of putting a casino by the highway in a metropolitan area were explored, but tribal chairman Raymond Hitchcock feels it is their opportunity to give back to the community and expressed their interest in working with the city and not against it.
