Jackson Rancheria Indians buy local newspaper

The Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians recently purchased the Amador Ledger Dispatch in order to merge it with their own newly created publication, the Acorn News.

The once-a-week Dispatch is 161 years old while the Acorn (an anagram for Amador & Calaveras Objective Regional News) has been around for weeks. The tribe says they will maintain ethical separation between their business interests and editorial content.

This follows recent trends of Indian tribes diversifying their business interests, often getting into manufacturing, real estate, and other businesses.
