Peppermill to host Spring Challenge

The Poker NV Spring Challenge kicks off with a bang as Event #1 is a two-day $240 buy-in/$40,000 guaranteed event. Play in Day 1A at noon on Friday, May 15 and/or Day 1B at noon on Saturday, May 16 to qualify for Day 2’s final round on Sunday. Tournament Director Cathi Wood puts the over/under for this first event at 300 players and is hoping to see the prize pool exceed $60,000.

There will be a total of 25 exciting poker events during the Poker NV Spring Challenge at the Peppermill. When we asked Wood which events are garnering the most interest and discussion, she stated that besides Event #1, there was much talk about Event #10, the $350 buy-in Heads-Up Championship. The Heads-Up event is limited to a 64-player field and has created quite the buzz in the poker community. This is also a two-day deep stack event with lots of value and will give the winner much bragging rights.

We asked Wood about Event #19, the $1,100 Main Event with a $100,000 guarantee. She said she is hoping to match last year’s Fall Challenge Main Event with the same guarantee where the event prize pool was over $200,000. The Main Event is a two-day tournament that starts with Day 1A at noon on Friday, May 22 and/or Day 1B on Saturday, May 23.

There are several great satellites that lead up to it, and Wood speculates there will be about 60 players pre-registered before it even begins. This will add to what she says will be a big and highly energized turnout for the Main Event. She said the first place winner will not only take home a chunk of change but also will win a beautiful custom-engraved watch to commemorate the victory.

Besides all the individual event competitions, Peppermill is guaranteeing a $5,000 first prize in the Best All-Around Player contest where players accumulate points depending on where they finish in all the events they play (some exclusions apply). Additionally, there is a mini-contest exclusively for Omaha-8 tournament players, and the player acquiring the most points in any or all of those seven Spring Challenge events wins a beautiful commemorative watch.

Wood said, “With a total of $171,000 in guarantees that look to be easily surpassed, the Peppermill Poker NV Spring Challenge is shaping up to be a huge success!”
