Players Championship at Thunder Valley

The Players Championship Series returns to the Poker Room at Thunder Valley Casino Resort Aug. 1 through 12 and will include over $460,000 in guaranteed prize money. The event comes on the heels of Thunder Valley’s World Series of Poker Main Event satellite tournaments in June and the announcement that Thunder Valley will host the Heartland Poker Tour in September.

Thunder Valley Casino Resort awarded five Northern California players free entry into the $10,000 buy-in WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas along with spending money for the trip. The event winners were Sasha Sabbaghine of Granite Bay, Mark Talesfore of Lincoln, Tom Fox of Lincoln, Kao Saevang of Sacramento, and Vinny Chu of Elk Grove. This is the third year in a row that Thunder Valley has hosted satellite tournaments for the WSOP Main Event giving Northern California players the chance to play on the biggest stage in poker. Thunder Valley will be following its players to Las Vegas for the event and provide updates on its blog at http://pokerroom.thunder

The Players Championship Series runs Aug. 1 through Aug. 12 and features buy-ins ranging from $60 to $425. The series offers a variety of games, including bounty tournaments, Omaha, H.O.R.S.E and a six handed event, culminating in the $250,000 guaranteed Players Championship. The $250,000 guarantee main event includes 20,000 in chips to start and has a $1,100 buy-in. Players Championship Satellites begin July 13 with buy-ins from $65 to $235.

“The Players Championship Series offers more starting chips and bigger guarantees than ever before,” said Ben Erwin, Poker Room Director at Thunder Valley. “Our series events have always been a partnership with the players that participate and we anticipate that the buy-ins, guarantees and starting chips will attract players from all over, making this truly the region’s Players Championship.”

In addition to the $250,000 Main Event Aug. 8 to 12, the Players Championship Series features a $150,000 guaranteed deep stack event Aug. 2 to 4. The final table of both events will be broadcast live online on the Poker Room’s blog.

The Poker Room at Thunder Valley Casino Resort also announced this month that it will host the Heartland Poker Tour Sept. 20 to 30. The $150,000 guaranteed no-limit Hold’em deep stack tournament is the first nationally televised event at Thunder Valley. More details on this event will be released in the coming months.

“The Heartland Poker Tour is just another example of the type of event that players can only find at the Poker Room here at Thunder Valley Casino Resort,” said Ben Erwin, Poker Room Director at Thunder Valley. “We are proud to be a destination poker room for so many in the region and excited to host such a major event. It’s time for Sacramento to host a nationally televised event.”
