Shooting Star arrives at Bay 101

The 23rd annual Shooting Star is coming to Bay 101 Casino in San Jose March 8 to 14. It consists of three events, with many mega satellites held beginning Jan. 18.

The Main Event (March 11 to 14) has a $5,200 buy-in. Last year’s tournament had 440 entries (192 from satellites) making a prize pool of $2,156,000. Bay 101 expects similar numbers this year. The 2019 champion, Sandeep Pulusani, received $354,400.

Play begins at 10 a.m. each day, and 30 “shooting stars” will be on hand as usual, each with a $2,000 bounty on their head. Chip leaders at the end of Days 1A and 1B will once again receive a $5,000 payout.

First up, starting March 8 at 10 a.m., is a $1,100 buy-in event with the final table on March 9. Then on March 10 at 2 p.m. the second event has a buy-in of $2,100. All three tournaments are no-limit Hold’em and allow re-entries.

Mega satellites with a $350 buy-in will take place Jan. 18, Feb. 1, 8 and 15 at 9 a.m. plus Feb. 27 and 28, March 2, 3 and 4 at 9:30 a.m. They will also have $700 buy-in satellites on Feb. 22 and 29 and March 7 at 9 a.m., with more on March 5, 6, 9 and 10 at 9:30 a.m.

Winners will receive a $5,200 Main Event seat or a $2,100 seat to Event #2, plus any remaining cash.

This will be the second Shooting Star series held at the new Bay 101.
