Sports betting initiative won’t make Calif. ballot

An initiative to allow sports betting in California was filed in June of 2018 with hopes of getting it on the ballot in 2020. However, the group that brought it forward, Californians for Sports Betting, failed to get even one of the 623,000 signatures required to bring it before the state’s voters.

A consultant for the group, Russel Lowery, was quoted as saying, “We never advanced to get a single signature. It started a conversation in California gaming on what is the right path forward, and those conversations will continue until they figure out the puzzle.”
