Thunder Valley adds monthly $30K tourney

The Poker Room at Thunder Valley Casino Resort’s first poker tour event was a decisive success drawing players from Washington, Oregon, Nevada and all parts of California, and awarding a prize pool of $342,000. All eight tournament events leading up to the inaugural NorCal Classic were a success including the $100K Guarantee Deep Stack, which drew 369 players and awarded a total prize pool of $147,000, and the $150 buy-in Big Bounty, which drew 210 players and guaranteed $10,000 with $50 bounties.

The $1,100 buy-in NorCal Classic drew 342 players and the final table was broadcast live on the Poker Room’s site ( Play at the final table lasted for over six hours with Huan Cung of Sacramento emerging victorious and outlasting runner-up Toan Nguyen of Elk Grove.

“I want to personally congratulate Huan for his stellar play at the NorCal Classic in December,” said Ben Erwin, poker room director at Thunder Valley. “We are grateful that so many attended the event. The incredible success of this event means that you will see more events just like this in 2013.”

The Poker Room at Thunder Valley is starting off 2013 with its High Hand Hot Rod Giveaway. From Jan. 9 to Feb. 27, $4,000 will be awarded in a drawing each week with entries into the drawing earned with qualifying hands throughout the week. The grand prize drawing will be held on March 6 with one guest winning a custom-built 1932 Ford Roadster from Standly Brothers Hot Rods in Yuba City.

The regular tournament schedule at the Poker Room at Thunder Valley is also changing in 2013. The first Saturday of every month will see the new 30K Guarantee Deep Stack. The event includes a $300 buy-in with 10,000 in starting chips, 30 minute blind levels and a mega satellite offered the Friday before each tournament. The Mega Satellite will have a buy-in of $60 and every six entries will generate a $300 entry.

On all Fridays, except those before the First Saturday 30K special event, there will be a 5:00 p.m. no-limit Hold’Em Deep Stack with a $125 buy-in and 10,000 in starting chips.

Also new in 2013 is the Monday Night no-limit rebuy tournament. This event offers a guaranteed $1,500 prize pool with $20 buy-in and $10 re-buys offered until the first break. Finally, the popular Omaha 8-or-better tournament, formerly offered only on the first Monday of the month, is now offered every Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. with a $75 buy-in and 5,000 in chips to start.

“We have expanded our tournament schedule at the request of our guests,” said Erwin. “We are excited that the First Saturday event is now offering a $30,000 guarantee with 10,000 in starting chips. This was heavily requested in 2012 and we anticipate the field to grow to over 200 players with these changes.”

The popular On the Clock Four of a Kind Bonus also continues this month. Guests can win $200 to $500 for making a lucky four of a kind every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.
