WSOP seat won, record field at April Deep Stack

Capitol Casino

Spring time is always great at Capitol Casino and this year is no exception. The poker room has been especially busy with tournaments, cash games, and poker promotions. By the time this issue has gone to print the Spring Madness promotion will have come to a dramatic conclusion and another $10,000 WSOP Main Event seat will have been awarded.

Spring is also tax return time and all the extra money in the players’ pockets has made the games at the “Cap” especially juicy. The $4/8 and $6/12 games have been busy with multi-way capped pots followed by many winners being seen carrying six to eight racks of chips to the cage. Even the high rollers in Sacramento have been especially active this time of year. The $5/10 no- limit game has been going five to six days a week and quite a few times there has also been a $10/20 no-limit game that goes all night and into the next day. Several basketball celebrities have been sighted partaking in the biggest game in town.

The action has been so good that even the poker gods smiled down on a table full of $4/8 players when just a few weeks ago the Jackpot B (the big one) was hit for about $100,000. The losing hand walked away with over $30,000, the winning hand was awarded just under $20,000 and each of the remaining lucky players received over $5,000 (all amounts are after taxes). Capitol Casino pays out about $2,000,000 a year in jackpots, daily bonuses, and promotions.

On Saturday, April 28 the second and final drawing for the Spring Madness promotion will be over and 36 grand prizes will have been awarded. These include iPads, home entertainment systems, cash prizes ranging from $500 to $3,000, and the top prize of a 2012 Ford Ranger. Stay tuned for the Sizzling Summer promotion with more cash and prizes.

On April 7 Capitol Casino hosted the first of three $220 WSOP Main Event Satellites. Seventy-six players showed up to compete for the coveted $10,000 seat. Sixteen of these players won their way into this event by playing in a $30 sub-satellite the day before and four of these lucky players made it to the final table. The eventual winner was Terry V., from Lodi. He is an experienced WSOP player and should represent Northern California well this year. More $220 Main Event Satellites are scheduled for the first Saturday of May and June and the $30 Sub-satellites are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on the Friday prior to each of these events.

Saturday April 14 was a record-breaking day for the once a month 2nd Saturday Deep Stack No-Limit Tournament. With 137 entries, this event broke the previous record of 127. They started at 11:00 a.m. and by 7:00 p.m. the field was down to the final 10. Action continued until about 9:30 when the final seven players agreed to a deal that paid each player close to $3,000. This event has become a regular stop for most of the best players in the Sacramento region and the player-friendly structure has allowed for quality play throughout the entire tournament. The next one will be on May 12 and promises to be just as good. Check out the entire tournament schedule at

In case you haven’t heard, Capitol Casino is hosting a $5,000 Player Appreciation Tournament on May 19. Players cannot buy into this event. They must accumulate 100 hours of time at the cash games to qualify for an entry. Currently there are already 40 players qualified and the casino is only guaranteeing seats to the first 100 players qualified and registered. There are just a few weeks left to qualify and the casino is offering double points towards this promotion during graveyard hours.
